Let’s Play Pretend: Curated Exhibition

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could propose an exhibition of your choice? Choose any artist you wish to feature? Curate an entire exhibition based on anything you wanted?

Well…If I had this opportunity, I would choose to display a collection of works based around the theme of Phalangealism. I believe in this movement called Phalangealism that is currently surfacing throughout the nation…maybe even the world. (I am being serious, bare with me!)

So, what is Phalangealism?

Phalangealism is the exploration of hands (or even phalangeal extremities in general) as primary elements of subject matter in order to expand upon their typical use mentally and physically.

What would make a piece eligible for this exhibition?

The works for this show must include depictions of extremities, more specifically hands, in order to define the relationship of arbitrary space and interaction. There is no limitation to media type.

When will the works be on display?

July 9th-24th

Who will be the featured artists?

Egon Schiele, Snail Scott, Jim Henson, Diana Schmertz, Tigran Tsitoghdzyan, Louise Bourgeois, Kevin Corrado and Brianna Pleasant (Me).

What works would be featured from each artist?

The reasoning behind the option to display these artists is to show the difference in phalanageal manipulation. Whether it be material, imagery, style, height and purpose, each artist has a focus and interest that is different from the other.

What would be your thoughts if you saw these works as part of an exhibit?
